The Process
First, let’s chat!
Starting with a simple conversation, we discuss what you have in mind for your portrait or illustration. We will talk about your expectations in regards to size, composition, or any other ideas you may have. There may be something specific you have in mind, or you might be looking for some guidance in the right direction.
It is important to note that I recreate hand-drawn copies of the photos that you provide. I can not piece together multiple images to create a new grouping of people or pets that does not exist. I find that this does not come out looking natural and I want to deliver to you the best work possible!
Provide a clear, high-resolution photo.
This part of the process is very important! Referencing a clear, high resolution photograph is key in order for me to create the most detailed, realistic representation possible. It often helps to have a few images to compare; I will work with you to determine which is the best option for your project.
In order to begin your project, a 50% deposit is required. Full payment including balance and shipping charges will be due upon completion.
Wait for the magic to happen!
Now, I get to work. Once I feel that the drawing is finished, I will send a photo for you to review. You can let me know if you approve or if there is anything that you’d like me to alter.
Timeline for completion may vary and depends on my current workload and the complexity of the illustration. We will determine this in further detail during our initial conversation, but average lead time is usually about 3-4 weeks.
Delivery.
With your final approval, the piece is sprayed with a final fixative so that the charcoal does not rub off while being handled. If you are local to Northern Virginia, you can pick up your artwork in person to avoid shipping. If you need to have your piece shipped, it will be carefully tucked into a protective plastic sleeve and sandwiched between two boards which will prevent bending during transit.
Payment in full is due at this time, as well as any shipping costs.
Framing.
I do not offer framing for artwork, however I will provide you with instructions for getting your piece framed. I am also more than happy to give you my recommendations regarding mat and frame styles.
